Recently, there has been a glut of animal attack stories, coupled with articles on increased animal abuse and diseases caused by animals. This is – in part – due to the fact that our out-of-control population is encroaching on their homes, taking away their resources and in some cases going out of its way to kill, injure, maim and abuse them (using “technology” to do our dirty work is no different from using our own hands). I think the root cause can be summed up in two words – Homo sapiens. Human egos, arrogance, paranoia and/or anxiety have led to “species discrimination” – anything that’s not us, or can’t be controlled, is not tolerated. I’m afraid this is a growing trend and we won’t learn our lesson until it’s too late. Frankly, I’m embarrassed to be a part of this culture, and I try to do what little I can.
